About
I was trained for the most anxious moments of human life. That training works for yours.

John Moelker — Care Practitioner · Engineer · Founder
Before I was a software engineer, I spent fifteen years doing crisis-listening and care work in the most emotionally demanding settings I could find — hospital bedside care, acute bereavement support, the moments right after something goes wrong and a person is too overwhelmed to think in straight lines.
I trained through Clinical Pastoral Education — the certification framework that prepares hospital care workers, hospice companions, and crisis counselors. CPE is not about what to say when someone is scared. It is about how to listen when someone is too frightened to organize their fear into a coherent question.
Here is what I learned: pet-owner anxiety is structurally identical to grief anxiety. The pet owner calling at 11 p.m. because their dog ate something — they are not a support ticket. They are a person in acute emotional distress, reaching for a voice that will slow down and take them seriously. The same framework that trained me to sit with a grieving family works for them. The HEAR protocol was built for grief. It generalizes to every frightened call.
When I moved into software engineering, I brought that background with me. Most "professional answering services" don't speak veterinary medicine. Most of them weren't built by someone who knows what it costs a scared pet owner to hear hold music. VetWiseAI is built by someone who does — and who spent fifteen years learning how not to make it worse.
The HEAR protocol in every VetWiseAI call is not a feature. It is the same framework I learned in a hospital room, adapted for the most anxious moments of veterinary care. Hear the owner. Empathize before you move. Advance at their pace. Respond with what they actually need. It works because care works.
Why care credentials matter for vet AI
The training behind the technology.
The HEAR protocol did not come from a product specification. It came from certified clinical training and fifteen years of direct care work. That background is not incidental to VetWiseAI. It is why the AI handles a scared pet owner differently from every generic answering service.
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
Certified clinical training in hospital-based grief care and crisis listening. Includes direct supervised work with people in their most anxious, most vulnerable moments.
Structured Empathetic-Care Training
Trained and supervised care volunteers for over a decade using the Stephen model — a rigorous framework for one-to-one empathetic support. The same discipline behind HEAR.
15 years in care for the most anxious moments of human life
Crisis listening, hospital bedside care, acute bereavement support. Trained specifically for the moments when a person is too overwhelmed to organize their fear into sentences — which is exactly where pet-owner anxiety lives.
15 years in software engineering
Production systems, API design, distributed architecture. Now building the platform that brings care and code together for veterinary practices.
Mission
A portion of every subscription funds our mission work.
WiseAI Agency (the parent company) funds subsidized AI tools for community organizations that cannot afford commercial pricing. VetWiseAI subscriptions support that work directly. If you are buying this because it solves a real problem for your practice, you are also helping under-resourced organizations answer their calls. Learn more →
